Video Presentation Workshop
February 20, 2025During this workshop, we learned how to create a video presentation in a creative and professional way to support our Smart Design project. The multimedia team explained how to use the available cameras and other recording and editing equipment. We received examples of how simple techniques can convey a powerful and convincing story. There was a strong focus on storytelling, image composition, sound, and visual content support. This session not only gave us technical skills but also the confidence to independently create a professional-looking presentation. The knowledge we gained can be well used for future projects.
Internship Event + International Educational Partners Explanation
March 6, 2025During this internship event, we received extensive information about internship planning and various opportunities at home and abroad. There were information sessions explaining how the internship process works, what the expectations are, and how to prepare optimally. Various organizations were present with their own stands, where we could go for personal conversations, information materials, and to show our interest. We had the chance to ask direct questions about the internship offerings, expectations, and the profile of interns they are looking for. We could take brochures, ask questions, and network with potential internship locations. We received valuable information about the various internship companies our program collaborates with. This activity was particularly useful for getting a better picture of the field, expanding our professional network, and thinking more specifically about an internship that aligns with our interests and future plans.
Smart Design Project Seminar
March 13, 2025This seminar focused on the innovative 'Smart Design' project, where technology, sustainability, and fashion reinforce each other. We received presentations on smart materials, circular design principles, and the integration of digital tools in the design process. Topics such as 3D modeling, user-friendly design, and sustainable production were extensively covered. The seminar demonstrated how the sector is evolving toward more interdisciplinary and socially conscious solutions. This session was particularly inspiring and encouraged thinking about how we, as future designers, can contribute to innovative and sustainable fashion. The link between theory and practice was very tangible here.
Company Visit Bioracer
March 20, 2025Bioracer develops technical sportswear for professional and recreational athletes and gave us a unique look at their operations. After a presentation by Danny Segers, we were guided through the company in small groups. We visited the design section, the Protolab where prototypes are tested, and the warehouse where quality control takes place. What stood out is how strongly Bioracer focuses on in-house production and constant innovation. They work closely with top athletes to optimize their products. Their motto 'We make you faster' reflects their mission to improve performance through smart design and technical knowledge. This activity made clear how technology, functionality, and fashion are combined at the highest level.
Company Visit JBC
March 20, 2025At JBC, we got a fascinating insight into the operation of a Belgian fashion company with a strong focus on sustainability and family values. After an introduction about JBC's history and mission, we were guided in groups through the design studio and distribution warehouse. We saw how the creative process connects with logistics and how sustainability is integrated from design to sales. JBC works with a 360° approach and connects locally while thinking in an international context. The company's values, such as proximity, customer focus, and ecological responsibility, were strongly emphasized during the visit. This experience provided insight into the reality behind the scenes of a modern retail player.
Reflection on the company visit to JBC - March 20, 2025
The company visit to JBC was a very educational and engaging experience for me. During the tour, we got a clear picture of how a large fashion company like JBC is structured. I found it interesting to see how the company functions, with various departments such as design, logistics, marketing, and distribution working closely together. The visit gave me insight into how all these links come together to bring a clothing collection from design to store. What particularly struck me was how complex the logistics processes are. I hadn't expected beforehand that the organization of shipments, inventory management, and distribution had to be so structured and coordinated. It was fascinating to see how much technology and planning is involved. Especially the distribution of the right garments to the right stores at the right time impressed me. Another surprising element was the use of artificial intelligence in the design process. At the children's department, JBC appeared to use AI tools to generate prints. I hadn't expected that at all; I assumed this work was mainly done by graphic designers. It shows how technological developments also influence creative sectors. Although there are still designers working at JBC, this illustrates how strongly AI is being integrated as a tool in the design process. It made me think about the role of technology within fashion companies, and how it evolves. At the same time, I also question the use of AI in a company that promotes sustainability as a core value. AI consumes quite a lot of energy, and I wonder to what extent that technology can still be called sustainable. This tension between innovation and ecology is something I want to look at more critically in the future. What I did find very fascinating was how garments are combined into complete collections in the stores, and how colors and materials are brought together into a coherent whole. The way fabrics are chosen and analyzed inspired me. It was a beautiful example of how creativity, fashion sense, and technical knowledge come together. I also saw clear links between this company visit and my fashion technology education. Not only did we get explanations about technical processes such as color analysis and collection planning, but we also met someone who works at this company and studied fashion technology themselves. It was motivating to see how someone with the same background is now active in the field. However, I also noticed that many functions at JBC are more administrative or office-oriented. At this moment, that appeals to me less. I don't see myself in a function with a lot of desk work for now, but rather in a more creative or practical role. I found the presentation at the end, where JBC's core values were discussed, also very strong. The emphasis on transparency, sustainability, and family values left a positive impression. I will certainly keep this experience in mind when choosing my internship. The visit helped me think more consciously about what kind of organization suits me, and what values I find important in a future work context.
